Goal!

Today we read the book Salt in His Shoes by Deloris and Roslyn Jordan.
Michael Jordan.  The mere mention of the name conjures up visions of basketball played at its absolute best.  But as a child, Michael almost gave up on his hoop dreams, all because he feared he’d never grow tall enough to play the game that would one day make him famous.  Deloris Jordan, mother of the basketball phenomenon, Michael Jordan, teams up with his sister Roslyn to tell this to tell this heartwarming and inspirational story that only the members of the Jordan family could tell.  It’s a story about faith and hope and how any family working together can help a child make this or her dreams come true.
After reading the story we talked about our own goals and dreams.  We used our creativity to illustrate the page...

Weslandia

We had a fabulous first day back in gifted last week!  We read a fantastic book called Weslandia by Paul Fleischman.  School is over and Wesley needs a summer project. Having learned that every civilization has a staple food crop, he decides to plant a garden and start his own—civilization, that is. He turns over a plot of earth in his yard, and plants begin to grow. Soon they tower above him and bear a curious-looking fruit. As Wesley experiments, he discovers that the plant will provide food, clothing, shelter, and even recreation. It isn't long before neighbors and classmates have developed more than an idle curiosity about Wesley and exactly how he is spending his summer vacation. Enter the witty, intriguing world of WESLANDIA. Our creative juices are following and we are creating our own civilizations!  If you want to hear this book read aloud click here. Stay tuned to find out more...
